Safe body mechanics are the healthy movement habits that help protect your muscles, joints, and spine from strain, pain, and injury.

Your body is designed to move, but when it moves the wrong way, especially over and over again, it can lead to discomfort and serious injury. Good body mechanics help you:

This is especially important if your daily routine involves lifting, standing, driving, bending, or sitting for long periods.
Your spine runs through the center of your back and is responsible for both support and movement. It is made up of 33 small bones (called vertebrae) stacked on top of one another. Between these bones are soft, shock-absorbing discs that help cushion your movements.
